Day 1 - Door No More

Our summer renovation is actually happening! We began demolition today in the old porch/laundry room area. The old siding has come off and a door to the dining room that we have never used has been filled in - at least on one side. Surprises today include: a wall we intend to move is found to be a supporting wall, so will require a different (more expensive, big surprise!) approach. Good news there is we should still be able to move it. Not moving it would put a HUGE damper on our bathroom relocation project. Also, discovered a huge beam runs down the middle of our kitchen floor. This should make leveling the floor interesting. We have started ripping up the nasty carpet which is GLUED to the nasty linoleum, which is GLUED to some blackish paper-y stuff, which is GLUED to the original hardwood :(. Big question yet to be answered: do we get to have said hardwood for our flooring?? But enjoying this little bit of progress today.
